Report the loss and contact the office

The embassy’s passport instructions call for a police report followed by a personal visit to the nearest BLS centre. Phone if you need to confirm the route for your circumstances, especially when departure is close.

Returning directly to India

The embassy describes an Emergency Certificate for an Indian tourist returning directly to India. It is a one-time travel document for that return. Tell the office if you planned to visit another country or transit somewhere that may require additional documents.

Keep the application separate from the call

A telephone conversation does not issue a passport or travel document. Ask what to take to the application centre and how to arrange the visit. Have a copy of the police report, passport details and travel booking available so you can answer the officer’s questions.

Before you call

  • Your passport number or a copy, if available.
  • Where and when the passport was lost or stolen.
  • Your intended departure date and full route.
  • Your local address, return number and any police report.

Calling from another country

For an ordinary international number, copy the full number shown above. The plus sign replaces the international access prefix when your phone accepts it. Do not add another country code to a number that already starts with +.

Check the hours attached to the line you need. A listed office address does not mean walk-in access is available. If no one answers, read the official contact page for an online enquiry route before trying another department.
