A lost passport before a flight

Write down every country in your itinerary, including connections. When asking about an emergency travel document, describe the route rather than only the final destination. The office needs the details of the trip you intend to make.

Read the current UK application rules

Use the official emergency travel document page linked below. It describes the route for travel within six weeks and sets out eligibility. An older saved embassy page may describe an earlier process; use the current application service for the actual request.

Do not arrive without arranging access

The embassy lists public access by appointment. Ask whether your case requires a visit, which office you should attend and what you must bring. If you have already submitted an online request, give that reference instead of starting another application.

Before you call

  • Your passport number or a copy, if available.
  • Where and when the passport was lost or stolen.
  • Your intended departure date and full route.
  • Your local address, return number and any police report.

Calling from another country

For an ordinary international number, copy the full number shown above. The plus sign replaces the international access prefix when your phone accepts it. Do not add another country code to a number that already starts with +.

Check the hours attached to the line you need. A listed office address does not mean walk-in access is available. If no one answers, read the official contact page for an online enquiry route before trying another department.
