When to call Madrid

Use this contact when a British citizen in Madrid needs urgent consular help. State the person’s location at the start of the call. The operator needs to know where help is required, which may be different from where you are calling.

For a visa question

The embassy is not the contact for UK visa enquiries. Use the UKVI contact service on GOV.UK and choose the type of application. Calling an embassy urgent line is not a way to obtain a visa decision or speed up a case.

Madrid or Barcelona?

The Barcelona consulate covers Catalonia, Aragon and Andorra. Its page also lists the Madrid number as a fallback when its regional line cannot be reached. Choose the local office first when you know which one serves your location.

Before you call

  • Your nationality and the city you are in.
  • The service you need and any existing reference number.
  • Your travel date, if a deadline affects your enquiry.
  • A return phone number and an email address you can access.

Calling from another country

For an ordinary international number, copy the full number shown above. The plus sign replaces the international access prefix when your phone accepts it. Do not add another country code to a number that already starts with +.

Check the hours attached to the line you need. A listed office address does not mean walk-in access is available. If no one answers, read the official contact page for an online enquiry route before trying another department.
