Same Format for Mobile and Landline
Canada does not use separate prefixes for mobile and landline numbers. Both follow the same 10-digit format: 3-digit area code + 7-digit local number. You dial them the same way.
Quick Answer
To call Canada from China, dial 00 + 1 + area code + local number. From a mobile phone, you can replace 00 with the + symbol. The full format is: 00-1-XXX-XXX-XXXX.

DIALING GUIDE
Follow these steps to dial any Canadian phone number โ mobile or landline โ from anywhere in China.
From a landline in China, dial 00 to signal an international call. On a mobile phone, you can press and hold 0 or use the + symbol instead.
00 or +
Enter 1 โ Canada's country code under the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). This is the same code used for the United States.
00 + 1
Enter the 3-digit area code for the region you're calling. For example, 416 for Toronto, 514 for Montreal, 604 for Vancouver, or 403 for Calgary.
00 + 1 + 416
Finish by dialing the 7-digit local phone number. The complete sequence from a Chinese landline would look like: 00-1-416-555-0123.

IMPORTANT DETAILS
Key rules to keep in mind when calling Canada from China, including number formats and common pitfalls.
Canada does not use separate prefixes for mobile and landline numbers. Both follow the same 10-digit format: 3-digit area code + 7-digit local number. You dial them the same way.
Unlike many countries, Canadian phone numbers do not start with a trunk prefix (leading 0). Dial the area code directly after the country code 1.
When calling from a Chinese landline, always use 00 as the exit code. The exit code 011 is used in North America, not in China. On a mobile phone, use + instead.
Chinese telecom carriers offer IP prefix numbers for cheaper international calls (e.g. 17951 for China Mobile, 17900 for China Telecom, 17910 for China Unicom). Dial the IP prefix before the full international number: e.g. 17951 + 00 + 1 + area code + number.
Canada covers six time zones, from Pacific (UTCโ8) to Newfoundland (UTCโ3:30). Beijing is 12 to 15.5 hours ahead of Canadian time depending on the destination city and daylight saving time. Always check the local time before calling.
Many Canadian cities have multiple area codes serving the same region (e.g. Toronto uses 416, 647, and 437). The dialing format stays the same regardless of which area code your contact uses.
TIMING TIPS
Beijing is 12 to 15.5 hours ahead of Canadian time zones. Plan your calls to reach people during waking hours without staying up all night.
With such a large time difference, a bit of planning goes a long way โ especially for students calling home or families catching up on weekends.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If your call isn't connecting, check these common issues before trying again.
Using 011 instead of 00 is a common mistake for callers in China. China's international exit code is 00. On a mobile phone, simply use the + symbol.
Some Chinese mobile plans (especially prepaid SIMs) do not have international calling enabled by default. Contact your carrier (China Mobile, China Unicom, or China Telecom) to activate international direct dialing (IDD).
Canadian numbers are always 10 digits after the country code (3-digit area code + 7-digit local number). If you have too many or too few digits, the call will fail.
Some internet-based calling services may experience connectivity issues within China's network environment. Browser-based services like Sayfone that use standard telephony routing can provide a more reliable connection for voice calls to Canada.
If the call connects but you hear silence, this is often a network routing issue. Try hanging up and redialing. If the problem persists, try calling at a different time or from a different network (Wi-Fi vs. cellular).
