Use a local telephone

Do not prefix these numbers with +91 and treat them as ordinary international numbers. This page does not offer a SayFone call button for either line. Try a local Indian telephone or ask your accommodation to help you place the call.

What to ask

The ministry describes information and assistance for domestic and foreign tourists travelling within India. Have the place name, district and your travel question ready. If you need help finding a location, read out an address rather than only the name of a hotel chain.

Languages and urgent situations

The published service runs in twelve languages. Ask which language is available when the call is answered. For immediate police, fire or ambulance attendance, use the local emergency service rather than waiting for a tourism enquiry to be answered.

Before you call

  • The town or district you are in.
  • The place or service you need information about.
  • A language you can use for the call.
  • Your current location if you need local assistance.

Calling from another country

For an ordinary international number, copy the full number shown above. The plus sign replaces the international access prefix when your phone accepts it. Do not add another country code to a number that already starts with +.

Check the hours attached to the line you need. A listed office address does not mean walk-in access is available. If no one answers, read the official contact page for an online enquiry route before trying another department.
