Choose the service you need

Local emergency services: 911. Give the operator your current address or a nearby landmark before describing the incident. If the source lists separate numbers, choose the one matching the help required.

Calling from a local phone

Do not add a country code to a short emergency number. Use a local mobile or landline that can reach the local emergency network. This page does not claim that SayFone can route emergency calls or transmit your location to an operator.

If you are calling for someone else

You may be in a different city or country from the person who needs help. State their location, not just your own. If you are abroad, ask someone at their location to contact local emergency services rather than assuming your own country’s emergency number reaches them.

Embassy help is a separate service

An embassy or consular centre does not dispatch a local ambulance, fire crew or police patrol. Arrange urgent local attendance first. A foreign citizen or their family can then contact the responsible consular office about the situation.

Before you call

  • The exact location and a nearby landmark.
  • The kind of emergency and whether anyone is injured.
  • A callback number, if available.
  • Any immediate danger the operator needs to know about.

Calling from another country

For an ordinary international number, copy the full number shown above. The plus sign replaces the international access prefix when your phone accepts it. Do not add another country code to a number that already starts with +.

Check the hours attached to the line you need. A listed office address does not mean walk-in access is available. If no one answers, read the official contact page for an online enquiry route before trying another department.
