No '1' prefix for mobile numbers
Since August 3, 2019, callers from the US no longer need to dial '1' after Mexico's country code (+52) when calling Mexican mobile phones. The same format applies for landlines and mobiles: +52 + 10-digit number.
Quick Answer
From a US landline, dial 011 + 52 + the 10-digit Mexican number. From a US mobile, dial +52 + the 10-digit number. Both landline and mobile numbers in Mexico use the same 10-digit format.

DIALING GUIDE
Follow these steps to dial any Mexican landline or mobile number from the US. Since Mexico's 2019 numbering reform, all numbers use a uniform 10-digit format.
From a US landline, dial 011. From a US mobile phone, press and hold 0 to enter the + symbol, or simply type +.
011 or +
Enter 52, which is Mexico's country code assigned by the ITU. This is the same for all calls to Mexico regardless of whether the destination is a landline or mobile.
011 52 or +52
Enter the full 10-digit number, which includes the area code (2 or 3 digits) followed by the local subscriber number (7 or 8 digits). Do not add a '1' before the area code โ this prefix was eliminated in 2019.

IMPORTANT RULES
Mexico's telephone system was simplified in 2019. Here are the key rules that affect how you dial from the United States.
Since August 3, 2019, callers from the US no longer need to dial '1' after Mexico's country code (+52) when calling Mexican mobile phones. The same format applies for landlines and mobiles: +52 + 10-digit number.
Every phone number in Mexico โ whether mobile or landline โ consists of exactly 10 digits. This includes a 2-digit area code (for Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey) or a 3-digit area code for all other regions, plus the remaining local digits.
The US international access code is 011 when calling from a landline. On a US mobile phone, you can use the + symbol instead, which replaces the exit code automatically.
Some special numbers in Mexico, such as toll-free 800 numbers, may not be reachable from the US or may incur international charges. If you need to reach a Mexican business, ask for their direct landline or mobile number.
TIMING TIPS
Mexico spans four time zones, but the majority of the population โ including Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey โ is on Central Standard Time (UTCโ6), the same standard offset as the US Central time zone.
Mexico abolished daylight saving time in most of the country in October 2022. However, municipalities near the US border still observe US DST. This means the time difference between some US and Mexican cities can shift by one hour seasonally.
Mexico City / Guadalajara / Monterrey
CST (UTCโ6)
Same standard offset as US Central, but no DST in most of Mexico
Cancรบn (Quintana Roo)
EST (UTCโ5)
Year-round Eastern Standard Time; no DST
Tijuana / Mexicali (border)
PST/PDT (UTCโ8/โ7)
Follows US Pacific DST schedule

TROUBLESHOOTING
If your call to Mexico isn't connecting, check these common causes before redialing.
The old format required a '1' after +52 for Mexican mobile numbers. This was eliminated in 2019. If you're still adding it, your call may not connect. Dial +52 followed directly by the 10-digit number.
All valid Mexican phone numbers are exactly 10 digits (after the +52 country code). If the number you have is shorter or longer, verify it with your contact. Older formats or locally shared numbers may be missing the area code.
Check the time zone. Mexico has four time zones and most of the country no longer observes DST. You may be calling at an unexpected hour for the recipient.
Mexican toll-free (800) numbers and short-code service numbers may not be reachable from the US, or may behave differently. Request a direct 10-digit number if a toll-free line doesn't connect.
