Always drop the leading 0
Vietnamese numbers written for domestic use start with 0 (e.g. 024 for Hanoi, 098 for a mobile). When dialing from Canada, omit this 0. Dial 011 84 24 … not 011 84 024 ….
Quick Answer
From Canada, dial 011 + 84 + the Vietnamese number (drop the leading 0). For mobile: 011 84 XX XXXXXXX. For landline: 011 84 [area code] [subscriber number]. On a mobile phone, you can use +84 instead of 011 84.

DIALING GUIDE
Follow these steps to reach any mobile or landline number in Vietnam from a Canadian phone or browser.
On a landline, dial 011. On a mobile phone, you can press and hold 0 to get the + symbol, which replaces 011.
011 or +
Enter 84 immediately after the exit code. This routes your call to Vietnam's telephone network.
011 84 or +84
Vietnamese numbers written domestically start with 0 (e.g. 024 for Hanoi landlines, 09X for mobiles). When calling internationally, drop this leading 0 and dial the remaining digits.
Local 0987 654 321 becomes 011 84 987 654 321
Your full dialed number should be 12–13 digits. For a mobile number it will typically be 011 84 + 9 digits. For a landline it will be 011 84 + area code + subscriber number (9–10 digits total after 84).

KEY RULES
A few formatting rules to keep in mind when placing calls to Vietnamese mobile and landline numbers.
Vietnamese numbers written for domestic use start with 0 (e.g. 024 for Hanoi, 098 for a mobile). When dialing from Canada, omit this 0. Dial 011 84 24 … not 011 84 024 ….
Vietnamese mobile numbers are standardized at 10 digits in domestic format (0XX XXXXXXX). After dropping the leading 0, you dial 9 digits after +84. Common mobile prefixes include 03X, 07X, 08X, 09X.
Vietnam landline area codes are 2 or 3 digits. Major cities use 2-digit codes (Hanoi: 24, Ho Chi Minh City: 28), while smaller provinces often use 3-digit codes (Da Nang: 236). The total number of digits after +84 is 9 or 10.
Canada's international exit code is 011 for landlines. From a mobile phone, you can use the + symbol instead, which is universally recognized. Both 011 84 and +84 route identically to Vietnam.
Some special numbers in Vietnam (such as toll-free 1800 or premium 1900 numbers) may not work when dialed from Canada. If you need to reach a Vietnamese business on a special number, ask for their standard landline or mobile number instead.
TIMING TIPS
Vietnam is on Indochina Time (ICT, UTC+7) year-round and does not observe daylight saving time. Canada spans six time zones and observes DST in most provinces, so the gap shifts by one hour seasonally.
The Vietnamese-Canadian diaspora is concentrated in cities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary. The time difference ranges from 11 hours (Eastern Canada, summer) to 15 hours (Pacific Canada, winter), so evening calls from Canada typically reach Vietnam in the morning.
Eastern Canada (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal)
11–12 hours behind Vietnam
11 hours during EDT (Mar–Nov), 12 hours during EST (Nov–Mar)
Pacific Canada (Vancouver, Victoria)
14–15 hours behind Vietnam
14 hours during PDT (Mar–Nov), 15 hours during PST (Nov–Mar)
Central Canada (Winnipeg, Regina)
13–14 hours behind Vietnam
13 hours during CDT, 14 hours during CST

TROUBLESHOOTING
If your call to Vietnam isn't connecting, check these common causes before redialing.
Double-check that you included 011 (or +) before 84, and that you dropped the leading 0 from the Vietnamese number. A common mistake is dialing 011 84 0XX … instead of 011 84 XX ….
Verify the area code matches the city you're trying to reach. Hanoi is 24, Ho Chi Minh City is 28, Da Nang is 236. If you reach a Vietnamese-language recording, the number may be disconnected or incorrectly formatted.
International calls can be affected by network congestion or routing issues. If using Sayfone in a browser, ensure you have a stable internet connection. Try calling again after a few minutes if the first attempt fails.
Some Canadian mobile plans restrict international dialing by default. Check with your carrier to ensure international calling is enabled on your plan, or use a browser-based service like Sayfone to bypass carrier restrictions.
Vietnamese toll-free (1800) and premium-rate (1900) numbers may not be reachable from outside Vietnam. Request an alternative standard number from the business you're trying to reach.
