Unlike most countries, Brazil's international dialing system requires you to choose a long-distance carrier by inserting a 2-digit code between the 00 exit prefix and the destination country code. For example, 21 selects Embratel and 41 selects TIM. This applies to both landline and traditional mobile dialing.
From a Brazilian mobile phone, you can often bypass the 00 + carrier code sequence by dialing + followed by the country code and number (e.g., +1 212 555 0123). Your mobile carrier will route the call using its default international service. Note that international roaming visitors in Brazil can also use this format.
All US phone numbers — both mobile and landline — use the same format: a 3-digit area code followed by a 7-digit local number. There is no need to distinguish between mobile and landline when dialing from abroad. The format is always +1 (area code) (local number).
When dialing the US number, do not add any leading zeros before the area code. The US does not use a trunk prefix for international inbound calls. Dial the area code directly after the country code 1.
