DIALING RULES
Understand the structure and formatting rules for calling landlines and mobiles in Japan.
Japanese landlines are formatted with a 1–4 digit area code followed by a 7–8 digit local number. When dialing internationally, use +81 + area code (without leading 0) + local number.
Mobile numbers in Japan start with 070, 080, or 090. When dialing from abroad, replace the leading 0 with +81, then dial the remaining 9 digits. For example, a number starting with 090 becomes +81 90.
When dialing from Mongolia, always drop the leading 0 from the area code or mobile prefix. The + symbol and country code (81) replace the 0.
Do not insert pauses or dial extensions during international calls. If an extension is needed, ask the recipient to provide it or transfer the call after connection.

Verify the number format: +81 + area code (no leading 0) + local number. Check your internet connection quality. If landline, confirm the number is active. If mobile, ensure you replaced the leading 0 with +81.
Japan's phone system may reject calls during system maintenance or congestion. Retry after a few minutes. For business lines, confirm office hours before calling.
International calls may experience slight latency or compression. Move closer to your internet router, close other browser tabs using bandwidth, and ensure your microphone is positioned correctly.
Refresh the Sayfone page and confirm you're logged in. The rate of 36¢/min will display before you place the call. Contact Sayfone support if the rate preview does not appear.
