DIALING GUIDE
Follow this simple format whether you're calling an Indian landline or mobile. The process is the same for all Indian phone numbers.
Enter 0091 (international dialing code for India). Some services use +91 instead of 0091—both work the same way.
0091 or +91
Enter the 1–2 digit area code for the city or region. Area codes differ by location across India.
11 (Delhi), 22 (Mumbai), 33 (Kolkata), 44 (Chennai), 79 (Ahmedabad)
Dial the 8-digit local subscriber number. The total number of digits after the area code varies slightly by city, but landlines and mobiles follow the same rule.

RULES & FORMATS
Key rules to follow when calling Indian landlines and mobile phones from Sri Lanka.
Indian mobile numbers always have 10 digits and do not use area codes. When dialing a mobile from Sri Lanka, use 0091 followed directly by the 10-digit mobile number (which starts with 6, 7, 8, or 9).
Landline numbers consist of an area code (1–2 digits) plus an 8-digit local number. After dialing 0091, add the area code and then the 8-digit number. Area codes vary by city.
When calling from Sri Lanka, dial either 0091 or +91 (the plus symbol is used mainly with mobile phones). Do not use both together. Most internet calling services accept both formats equally.
Indian toll-free and premium-rate numbers may not be reachable from overseas. If a number starts with 1800, 1801, 1808, or 181, call the organisation directly using their main landline or mobile number instead.
TIMING & TIPS
Sri Lanka and India operate on the same time zone (IST, UTC+5:30 year-round), so no time zone conversion is needed. Plan calls based on working hours and local customs.
Both countries observe the same time zone and do not observe daylight saving time, making scheduling straightforward.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Solutions to call quality, connection, and number-format problems.
Check your internet connection or phone signal. If using internet-based calling, restart the app or browser. Wait 5–10 seconds before redialing. If the problem persists, try calling from a different network (switch from WiFi to mobile data or vice versa).
Move to a location with stronger signal or WiFi. If on mobile data, move closer to a cell tower. On internet calling, close other apps using bandwidth. Ask the recipient if they hear you clearly; sometimes the issue is on their end.
Verify you entered the country code (0091 or +91), area code (if landline), and full local number. Double-check the number was copied correctly. Try removing any spaces or dashes before dialing.
Network interruptions can cause drops. Move to a location with stable signal or switch networks. If drops happen frequently, test with a different calling service to rule out service-specific issues.
International calls to Indian toll-free (1800, 1801, 1808) and premium-rate numbers often fail. Use the main landline or mobile number for the business instead. Contact the organisation directly for an international-friendly number.
