Landline vs. mobile exit code
From a Mexican landline, always start with 00. From a mobile phone, use the + symbol instead. Dialing 00 from a mobile will not work, and dialing + from a landline is not supported.
Quick Answer
From a Mexican landline, dial 00 + 1 + area code + 7-digit number. From a mobile phone, dial +1 + area code + 7-digit number. With Sayfone, calls to Canada cost just $0.08/min from your browser.

DIALING GUIDE
Follow these steps to place a call to any Canadian landline or mobile number from Mexico. The format is the same for both โ Canada does not use separate mobile prefixes.
From a Mexican landline, dial 00. From a mobile phone, press and hold 0 to produce the + symbol instead. Do not dial 00 from a mobile โ it will not work.
Landline: 00 โฆ | Mobile: + โฆ
Enter 1, which is the country code for Canada. Canada shares this code with the United States and other NANP countries.
00 1 โฆ (landline) | +1 โฆ (mobile)
Enter the 3-digit area code for the region you are calling. Major examples: Toronto (416), Vancouver (604), Montreal (514), Ottawa (613), Calgary (403).
00 1 416 โฆ (landline to Toronto) | +1 604 โฆ (mobile to Vancouver)
Complete the call by entering the subscriber's 7-digit local number. The total Canadian number (area code + local) is always 10 digits.
00 1 416 555 1234 (landline) | +1 514 555 6789 (mobile)
You should hear a standard North American ring tone. If calling via Sayfone, your rate is $0.08/min to any Canadian number โ landline or mobile.

IMPORTANT RULES
Keep these rules in mind to avoid failed calls and unexpected charges when calling Canada from Mexico.
From a Mexican landline, always start with 00. From a mobile phone, use the + symbol instead. Dialing 00 from a mobile will not work, and dialing + from a landline is not supported.
Canada does not use a domestic trunk prefix (like 0) in international dialing. After the country code 1, go straight to the 3-digit area code. Do not add any extra digits.
Unlike some countries, Canada does not distinguish between mobile and landline number formats. Both use +1 followed by a 10-digit number. There is no separate mobile prefix to add.
Every call to Canada requires the 3-digit area code, even if you know the local number. A 7-digit number without the area code will not connect.
Some Mexican carriers (Telcel, AT&T Mรฉxico, Movistar) may require international calling to be activated on your plan. Check with your provider if your call does not connect.
Canadian toll-free numbers (800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, 833) typically do not work when dialed from outside Canada. Ask your contact for a direct number instead.
TIMING TIPS
Canada spans six time zones, from Pacific (UTCโ8) to Newfoundland (UTCโ3.5). Most of Mexico uses Central Time (UTCโ6), so overlap with major Canadian cities is generous.
Plan your calls around business hours or early evening in Canada to catch people at home. For seasonal agricultural workers calling family in Mexico, evenings in Canada (after 6 PM local) align well with afternoon hours in central Mexico.
Toronto / Montreal / Ottawa
Same time as Mexico City (ET = CT+1, but overlap is close)
Eastern Time โ 1 hour ahead of most of Mexico
Vancouver / Victoria
2 hours behind Mexico City
Pacific Time โ call later in the day from Mexico
Calgary / Edmonton
Same time as Mexico City (MT = CTโ1 in DST)
Mountain Time โ nearly aligned with central Mexico

TROUBLESHOOTING
If your call to Canada is not connecting, check these common problems before trying again.
Mexico's landline exit code 00 does not work from mobile phones. Use the + symbol instead (press and hold 0). Dial +1 followed by the 10-digit Canadian number.
All calls to Canada require a 3-digit area code. If you only dial 7 digits after the country code, the call will fail. Always include the area code (e.g., 416 for Toronto, 604 for Vancouver).
Some Mexican carriers disable international calls by default. Contact your provider (Telcel, AT&T Mรฉxico, or Movistar) to enable international dialing on your plan, or use Sayfone from your browser to bypass carrier restrictions.
Toll-free numbers starting with 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, or 833 generally cannot be reached from outside Canada and the US. Request an alternative direct-dial number from your contact.
Canada shares country code +1 with the US and several Caribbean nations under the North American Numbering Plan. Make sure you have the correct Canadian area code to avoid routing your call elsewhere.
