Always include the area code
All calls to Canadian numbers — whether mobile or landline — require the 3-digit area code. Canada does not support 7-digit dialing for international calls. The full sequence after the country code must be 10 digits.

DIALING GUIDE
Follow these steps to connect your call from India to any Canadian landline or mobile number. The format is the same for both — Canada does not distinguish between mobile and landline dialing sequences.
From a landline in India, dial 00 to signal an international call. On a mobile phone, you can press and hold 0 to enter the + symbol instead, which replaces the exit code automatically.
00 or +
Enter 1, the country code for Canada. Canada shares this code with the United States and other North American Numbering Plan (NANP) members, but international rates to Canada will still apply.
00-1 or +1
Every Canadian phone number starts with a 3-digit area code identifying the province or city. For example, 416 covers Toronto, 604 covers Vancouver, and 514 covers Montreal. You must always include the area code — even for mobile numbers.
00-1-416 or +1-604
Complete the call by entering the remaining 7 digits of the recipient's phone number. The total Canadian number after the country code is always 10 digits (3-digit area code + 7-digit local number).
00-1-416-555-0123 or +1-604-555-0199

IMPORTANT RULES
Keep these rules in mind to ensure your call to Canada connects on the first try.
All calls to Canadian numbers — whether mobile or landline — require the 3-digit area code. Canada does not support 7-digit dialing for international calls. The full sequence after the country code must be 10 digits.
Unlike India (which uses 0 as a domestic trunk prefix), Canada does not use a leading 0. Do not add a 0 before the area code when dialing from India. Go straight from the country code to the area code.
Canada does not differentiate between mobile and landline number formats. Both use the same +1 [area code] [7-digit number] structure. There is no separate mobile prefix to add or remove.
India's international access code (exit code) is 00. From an Indian landline, dial 00 before the Canadian country code. From a mobile, you can use the + symbol instead — long-press the 0 key to produce it.
Some Indian mobile plans disable international direct dialing (IDD) by default. Contact your carrier (Jio, Airtel, Vi, BSNL, etc.) to confirm IDD is activated before placing your call. Using Sayfone through your browser avoids this issue entirely.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If your call to Canada isn't connecting, one of these common issues may be the cause. Most problems stem from small dialing mistakes or carrier-level restrictions.
Canadian numbers always require 10 digits after the country code (3-digit area code + 7-digit local number). If you only dial 7 digits after +1, the call will fail. Always confirm the full 10-digit number with your contact.
Many Indian mobile carriers disable IDD (international direct dialing) by default. You may need to activate it via your carrier's app, customer service, or USSD code. With Sayfone, you can bypass this entirely by calling through your browser.
India uses 0 as a trunk prefix for domestic long-distance calls, but Canada does not. Do not dial 0 between the country code and the area code. The correct sequence is +1 [area code] [number], not +1 0 [area code] [number].
Canada and the United States share the country code +1 under the North American Numbering Plan. This does not mean your call is routed to the US — the area code determines the destination. International rates to Canada may differ from US rates on your carrier plan.
Canada spans six time zones (9 to 13.5 hours behind IST). Calling at the wrong hour may reach voicemail. Use the timing guide above to find the ideal window for your recipient's province.
